Research Specialist II

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Research Specialist II, are to:

  • Ensure work is conducted in compliance with safety, compliance, business conduct policies / procedures and Bayer L.I.F.E. values;
    • Prioritization of analyses according to customer needs matched to capacity; organization and coordination of projects in a high throughput lab environment; obtaining analytical data; ensuring data integrity; functioning in multi discipline teams and delivering laboratory results in an efficient manner;
    • Performance and improvement of various assay techniques, quality control implementation, direct communication with scientists, analysis of quantitative results, reporting results via Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)/email;
    • Receipt, identification, and preparation of samples and ensure incoming samples are labeled correctly, appropriate analytical have been requested, prep and analyze samples according to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) work instructions;
    • Coordinate with other laboratory activities to ensure quality data is collected in a timely manner;
    • Assure that workflow and final delivery of quality data meets or exceeds predetermined deadlines;
      • Routine and preventative maintenance on analytical instrumentation used to conduct experiments in the lab;
      • Responsible for initiating contact for high level repairs/issues;
      • Perform repairs on numerous types of spectroscopic instrumentation as needed;
      • Work with Breeding Analytical Sciences Lead to coordinate resource planning for workload.

        Required Qualifications:

        • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a scientific field such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology or a related field with related industry experience;
        • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered;
        • Extensive experience with total combustion analysis, elemental analysis, calorimetry, Gas Chromatography (GC), Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy, Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), total oil analysis, colorimetry, High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), falling number, farinograph, mixograph, SRC, SDS, bench top wet chemical analyses, LIMS and the Microsoft Office Suite;
        • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered;
          • Ability to think both tactically and strategically, attention to detail, strong organizational skills; work well in a team environment, collaborate with colleagues representing diverse competencies, backgrounds, and roles; multitask and assume responsibility for diverse but interconnected tasks;
          • Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to diverse audiences.


            Preferred Qualifications:

            • Working knowledge of analytical chemistry, laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and their application;
            • Experience running or managing laboratory based high throughput production processes, automation, and sample handling systems;
            • Extensive experience with reflectance and transmission NIR spectroscopy, chemometrics and optics;
            • Equivalent amounts of relevant education or experience will be considered;
              • Functional expertise with a wide variety of software products such as ISIscan, WinISI, MATLAB, Unscrambler, MiniTab, LIMS and Excel, Quality Assurance/Quality Control methodologies and practices;
              • Experience with ISO 9002, ISO 17025, Good laboratory practice (GLP), Good manufacturing processes (GMP), Quality Management System (QMS) Lean, 5S and/or Six Sigma
