Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Employment Type: Monday - Friday Day Shift10am-6pm Position Purpose: Acts as technical information resource for MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory.Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/orresults and uses knowledgeand skillsto troubleshoot and resolve them.Consults with Medical Technologists and/or Medical Laboratory Scientists when appropriate. Performs tasks and procedures specific to assigned section with minimal supervision. What you will do: - Uses educational and technicalexpertiseto troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance and analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status.Assistsand supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives. - Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records. Maintains supply inventories. - Trains new employeesand acts as preceptor for laboratory students. - Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software. - Providesexceptional customer service to internal and external customers. Minimum Qualifications: - Associate’sdegree in science-related field. - Successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program oralternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements. - Certification in one of the following: - Medical LaboratoryTechnician (MLT)by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). - MedicalLaboratory Technician(MLT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). - A person may be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration for the certification exam.The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire. - Strong communicationand interpersonal skills. - Strong organizational and multi-tasking skillsrequired.
