GENERAL SUMMARY:Provides support and assistance to the clients we
serve in the adult half-way house/residential treatment services.
Participates as a treatment team member providing direct care
services to adult clients and their children. Works with clients
and their children on treatment plan goals through professional
interventions and supportive guidance/assistance. Participates in
the teaching, coaching, and directing of adult clients as they
address recovery, parenting, relationships, self-sufficiency, and
daily living skills issues. Regularly interacts with adult half-way
house/residential services and outpatient clients and their
children ensuring their safety and security. Serves as a resource
for the resident counselor staff in matters related to the adult
treatment programming. Communicates with supervisor on personnel
and performance issues for self and for the residential counselors
and ensures that all necessary tasks are completed in a qualitative

Policies as it applies to their job role."ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supports the philosophy and mission of House of Mercy ensuring that
it is visual in the operation and direction of the adult hallway
house/residential services programs resident counselor staff.
Communicates and promotes a strong commitment to the services
provided by House of Mercy. Effectively develops and nurtures
rapport and therapeutic relationships with all clients, co-workers,
families, internal and external customers. Assures that the
Resident Counselors follow through with their direct care
responsibilities with emphasis on providing skill development
education/coaching, developing rapport/relationship with clients,
monitoring client activities, developing/enhancing client parenting
skills, and observing client peer interactions. Intervenes when
behaviors are inappropriate to ensure a safeenvironment. Provides
counseling services to clients and their children when/where the
situation requires. Serves as the initial contact person for
addressing/resolving staff questions/concerns. Monitors and assures
resident counselor compliance with documentation requirements
including daily logging of client behaviors/activities, maintenance
of medication records, completion of incident reports, staff
communication logs, etc. In the absence of the Adult Halfway
House/Residential Services Supervisor facilitates the
changeover/huddle process to ensure effective communication of
client, program, and staff information between shifts. Assures
medications are kept in a secured environment and appropriately
distributed to adult clients and their children according to
physician instructions and medication management guidelines.
Assumes accountability for medication room organization, including
discarding outdated medications, updating documentation in
medication logbook, and properly disposing of medications as
warranted. Completes significant incident reports on medications
taken improperly or not dispensed. Assists and teaches clients
appropriate administration of medications for themselves and their
children. Provides hands-on skill development and counseling to
adult clients, providing teaching and instruction on specific
skills or competencies including but not limited to the areas of
problem solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, bedtime
routines, mediation, communication and socialization, developing
appropriate relationships with others and developing techniques for
controlling behavior. Seeks assistance and direction on complex
situations. Communicates regularly with Adult Halfway
House/Residential Services Supervisor to discuss daily operations,
concerns, opportunities for improvement, and disciplinary issues of
staff and clients. Develops, oversees and maintains staff
scheduling, assuring appropriate coverage is maintained and insures
coordination of any unforeseen changes in the schedule. Oversees
that everyone schedule is also in UKG. Assures adherence to chain
of custody procedures in the collection of urinalyses (UA) and
breathalyzer (BT) samples. Collaborates with treatment team members
in carrying out treatment plans and initiates necessary corrective
action(s).MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Facilitates groups as necessary and
develops programs and/or curriculum as directed. Participates in
House of Mercy's Performance Quality Improvement Process. Seeks
opportunities to improve/enhance programming and makes
recommendations to support improvements/enhancements. Maintains
inventory of supplies necessary for client use, including ordering
and stocking. Responds in emergency situations utilizing CPR and
First Aid as appropriate and remains clams in handling emergency
situations. Maintains knowledge of referral and resource services
outside Mercy for use by clients. Maintains an awareness of and
adheres to Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting
laws. Maintains an awareness of and adheres to Federal
Confidentiality laws. Communicates on a professional level with all
co-workers, department staff, vendors, donors, and residents.
Attends meetings and training sessions as required.MINIMUM
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in
social work or related human services discipline from an accredited
four-year program, preferred. CADC certified within eighteen (18)
months of hire. Preferred Heartsaver AED (Infant, Child and Adult)
within four (4) months of hire. Valid Driver's/Chauffeurs License
required, must meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be
at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state
law. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training
specific to population served within 30 days of employment.
Medication Management certification to be completed within three
(3) months of hire. Understanding of medical terminology and
communicate effectively with healthcare professionals. Excellent
