Employment Type:Full timeShift:Day ShiftDescription:Under the
direction of the healthcare provider, the Certified Medical
Assistant (CMA) is responsible for delivering patient care that
promotes the safety and well-being of all patients. The CMA
performs preliminary physical tests, such as measuring blood
pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, and respirations,
and other tasks as directed by established clinical protocols.Key
Responsibilities:
- Perform patient care following established standards and
procedures.
- Greet and prepare patients for examination by the healthcare
provider.
- Obtain and accurately record vital signs, including blood
pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug
allergies, current medications, and presenting problems.
- Draw and collect blood samples from patients as needed, and
prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via various
routes: oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and inhalant
administration.
- Perform routine tests, including EKGs, as directed.
- Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and ensure follow-up
to verify completion.
- Communicate test results and the plan of care to patients via
phone or mail as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Prepare, clean, and sterilize medical instruments and maintain
equipment. Ensure exam rooms are stocked, clean, and orderly, and
dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
- Accurately document patient care plans, test results, and
examination findings in the medical record, as directed by the
healthcare provider.
- Escalate any non-routine issues, questions, or concerns to the
practice manager or healthcare provider.
- Ensure safety checklists and quality controls are completed as
required.
- Provide for patient safety and protect patient privacy
rights.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the practice manager, MA
Lead, or as requested by healthcare provider(s).Education,
Accreditation, and Licensure (Required & Preferred):Completion of
one of the following:
- 75-hour/120-hour Certified Nursing Assistant Program
- 136-hour Certified EMT program
- Accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Accredited Radiography Technology Program (for limited
radiography) and possession of a State of Iowa Limited Radiographer
Certification
- High School diploma or GED - Required
- CPR Certification (must be obtained within 6 months of start
date) - Required
