Substance Abuse Counselor Job Summary:With Children & Families of Iowa mission Restoring hope, Building futures and changing lives, you experience a purpose in your work as an outpatient substance abuse counselor. Join a team of behavioral health providers that take an integrative approach to provide substance use services, that include mental health and domestic violence advocacy. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the Program Director and is responsible for the care and treatment of assigned substance abuse cases and providing Level 1 Substance Abuse Services.Substance Abuse Counselor Sample Job Duties:Conduct comprehensive substance abuse assessment, admission interviews and Level 1 or 2.1 treatment in accordance with client needs and agency guidelines, policies, accreditation standards, and grant requirements. Substance Abuse Counselors work at least one evening per week to support enhanced availability for clients. Conduct group counseling sessions in outpatient groups to aid in the attainment of client goals and to adhere to the treatment curriculum. Meet at least biweekly with the Program Director and with outpatient team, based on each locations team schedule, to review cases and ensure client and program needs are being met through a trauma-informed lens. Collaborate with the Treatment Team, including outside providers, to ensure high quality of services are provided, excellent customer service is implemented, and coordination of overall treatment plans and goals meet the needs of the clients. Determine the need for and facilitate referrals, both internally and externally, to meet the needs of clients.Maintain and document client records according to agency and state licensure standards in a timely manner. Includes, but is not limited to the following: Develop and maintain goal-oriented treatment plans; intake, admission and discharge Ismart; correspondence with other agencies, programs, clients and collateral contacts; treatment notation and discharge summaries to identify and address treatment plans and effective quality care. Requirements:
Associate degree required with experience working with people who have experienced trauma. Bachelor's degree in counseling or human services related field preferred. Certification in addiction or eligibility within six months of hire required. Experience with computer systems, ability to understand and operate various related software necessary to carry out job functions.PI156714943
