Job Details Position Type: Locum Tenens (Travel) — Locum-to-Perm Specialty: Hematology & Medical Oncology (Hematology/Oncology Physician) Location: Des Moines, IA 50314 (serving Des Moines and West Des Moines) Start Date: March 30, 2026 (ASAP available) Assignment Duration: 13 weeks with potential for permanent placement Estimated Weekly Pay Range: $13,020 – $13,950 (competitive locum tenens pay) Schedule: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off Clinic Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Hours per Week: 36 Shift Duration: 12-hour any On Call: Yes (schedule TBD) Setting: Outpatient hematology & medical oncology clinic plus inpatient coverage at two hospitals Telehealth: May be included in addition to inpatient responsibilities Patient Volume: Clinic: 10–30/day; Inpatient census: 10–15 Appointment Length: Consults 40 min; Follow-ups 20 min Support: 1:1 nursing support, access to imaging, lab, and pharmacy EMR: EPIC Qualifications & Job Requirements Board Certified or Truly Board Eligible in Hematology and Oncology Fellowship trained in Hematology/Oncology (medical oncology) Active Iowa medical license or active IMLC (LOQ required at submission) Minimum 1 year clinical experience in hematology/medical oncology (outpatient and inpatient) Willingness to provide coverage at both Des Moines and West Des Moines locations Clean malpractice and background history (recent NPDB self-query required) Key Responsibilities Deliver comprehensive hematology and medical oncology care across outpatient clinics and inpatient wards Perform patient assessments, develop and manage individualized treatment plans, and adjust therapies as clinically indicated Oversee chemotherapy ordering and administration oversight, including supportive care and safety protocols Coordinate referrals to ancillary services (radiation oncology, palliative care, social work) to ensure continuity of care Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for pain management, symptom control, and end-of-life planning Accurate documentation and timely communication using EPIC to support quality outcomes and oncology care pathways Why Choose This Des Moines Oncology Job?
