Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse (RN) Specialty: Emergency Room (ER) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM Hours per Shift: 12.5 Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Michigan Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Work history, skills checklist current to 1 year pertinent to the specialty, 2 supervisory reference forms taken within the last two years Description: The RN functions primarily in direct patient care. The RN demonstrates competent clinical practice with a variety of patients. The RN works as part of a team with a common goal of offering patient-centered, timely care in a safe and friendly environment. The RN offers individualized compassionate care to emergency department patients, observation patients, and outpatients. The RN initiates immediate care in life-threatening situations in the absence of a physician. The RN provides nonjudgmental care for both acutely ill and non-acute patients. This position requires the ability to perform multiple procedures utilizing both complex and simple nursing skills. The RN assists the physician and other team members to provide relationship-based patient-centered care. The RN provides comfort both physically and psychologically to patients, their families, and visitors. Utilizing the relationship-based care model, the RN guides patient teaching and provides patient-specific discharge and follow-up instructions. The RN communicates with EMS daily, relaying appropriate orders from the physician for pre-hospital care. This role involves working with various types of sophisticated equipment in a friendly and frequently stressful environment. The RN maintains a friendly, customer-oriented attitude at all times. It is expected that all team members work together to provide the best possible care to staff, patients, families, visitors, and community members. The RN treats every person with kindness, compassion, respect, and relationship-based care. The RN regularly assesses patient needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician’s authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence-based nursing practice. Direct patient care includes medication administration, treatments, education, assisting with transfers, and responding to alarms, among other duties. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment plan and participates in updating or revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members. Utilizing current information is essential to improve patient care. The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all relevant regulations and guidelines. The RN maintains knowledge of specific policies and procedures relating to the care provided and upholds professional nursing standards.
