Job Title: Sanitation Assistant Manager Location: Fresh Commissary Facility Revision Date: 12/18 General Function: Helps lead the sanitation team. Ensures the cleanliness of the facility and is responsible for trash removal from various areas of the interior production area of the plant. Perform all jobs safely, efficiently and accurately to maintain and improve the performance of the entire plant in the areas of Safety, Quality, Reliability (SQR), and our Customer 1st strategy. Provide leadership that embodies our Hy-Vee fundamentals, and motto. Working Relationships: Accountable and Reports to: Group Vice President, Sanitation Manager, and Safety and Compliance Manager Primary Responsibilities and Duties:* Supervises adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices in regard to sanitation procedures * Monitors and audits, making adjustments as necessary to processing and packaging equipment cleaning systems/procedures to ensure optimal cleanliness * Ensures compliance with all company and regulatory sanitation food quality and food safety standards as well as employee safety and environmental standards * Works closely with management and production personnel on sanitation problems; recommending changes to improve sanitation policies, procedures, and cleaning effectiveness * Performs comprehensive sanitation audits on each unique production process to determine sanitation effectiveness * Communicates reports/trends/issues regarding inspections, sanitation deviations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies via e-mail * Conducts training programs for all sanitation procedures and is responsible for the development and training of sanitation personnel * Understands chemical specifications and their effectiveness/proper application for different processing/packaging equipment SSOP's * Conducts scheduled sanitation validation audits including dismantling and inspecting critical processing and packaging equipment to ensure proper clean ability/sanitization * Responsible for the scheduling, coordination, and management of the food manufacturing sanitation crew * Reviews and maintains sanitation documentation for Quality Assurance and regulatory review * Builds partnerships with production, quality, and human resources to ensure production and people goals are met * Assists with interviewing and selection of new team members Secondary Responsibilities:* Must be at least 18 years of age * High School Diploma or GED * Strong attention to detail, with high degree of accuracy and precision * Strong oral and written communication skills * Self-motivated and self-directed * Strong planning and organizational skills * Ability to meet deadlines with limited supervision * Basic computer knowledge and skills * Flexible to work any shift as needed * Ability to work from heights Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning work of others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel and acting on employee problems. Has authority to recommend employee disciplinary action. Education/Experience Required to Perform Job: High school education or equivalent. 2+ years Sanitation experience. Management experience preferred. Physical Requirements:* Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. * Must be able to be on feet (standing and walking) for 6-8 hours a day. * Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision. * Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Working Conditions:* The duties of this position are performed mostly in the production area which is wet and refrigerated (@38 degrees). * Frequent deadlines exist while handling multiple tasks. * Working directly with employees, technicians and salespersons. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:* Must have the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems and with several abstract and concrete variables. Equipment Used to Perform Job: Personal Computer, Cleaning Chemicals & Cleaning Tools, pallet jack, forklift, ladder, lifts and a wide array of hand tools both electric and manual. Contacts: Has daily contact with employees and suppliers/vendors. Has occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
