Job Title: Distribution Center Training/Safety Supervisor

Department: Training

FLSA: Exempt

General Function:

Responsible for training/safety development of warehouse personnel as it relates to customer service and providing a safe and healthy work environment.

    Reporting Relations:

    Accountable and Reports to: Vice President, Distribution; AVP Human Resources

    Positions that Report to you: Training Coordinators; Training Specialists; Safety Advocates

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Manages all Training Specialists, Training Coordinators and Safety Coordinators.
    • Oversees knowledge of and compliance with all training programs including online programs.
    • Manages Manhattan MDA for new hire and terminated employees.
    • Manages Kronos for the Training Department.
    • Monitors, evaluates and recommends training programs to ensure optimum customer service is being delivered.
    • Assist department managers to set up training for office employees.
    • Establish effective relationships with management as a means of identifying training opportunities.
    • Oversees the hiring of new Training Coordinators, Training Specialists and Safety Coordinators.
    • Helps record First Report of Injuries and OSHA recordable injuries.
    • Conduct Safety walk throughs.
    • Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.

      Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: (These are considered occasional in nature)
      • Assists with updating Training and Safety materials.
      • Helps with interviews and orientations.
      • All Training and Safety documentation and filing.
      • Basic WMS Troubleshooting.
      • Create and update Training and Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
      • Employee performance reviews.

        Supervisory Responsibilities:
        • Instructing, assigning work, planning the work of others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, and acting on employee problems. (Scheduling and execution of roll outs for updated or additional software, and/ or training initiatives). Including training and implementation of such software.

          Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
          • Must have working knowledge of day to day supply chain operations.
          • Must have the ability to follow written, verbal or diagrammatic instructions; solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization.
          • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
          • Must be able to compose original correspondence; follow technical manuals and have increased contact with people.
          • Must be able to develop effective training materials utilizing a variety of media.

            Education and Experience:

            High School or equivalent experience. Two to three years of additional course work in education or training preferred.

            Over one year up to three years of similar or related retail work experience.

            Physical Responsibilities:
            • Must be able to physically perform sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
            • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and up to 20 feet, with or without correction and field of vision.
            • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

              Working Conditions:

              The duties for this position are normally conducted in a warehouse or office environment. There is significant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. There is exposure to dirt, noise, vibrations, and electrical shock. Spends majority of time in an office setting.

              Equipment Used to Perform Jobs:

              Double pallet jack, time and scanning clocks, May also use a forklift, stockpicker, single pallet jack, cleaning materials such as broom and shovel.

              Confidentiality:

              Has access to confidential information including knowledge of ad prices and product pricing policies of individual stores.

              Financial Responsibilities:

              Responsible for ordering supplies.

              Contacts:

              Has daily contact with warehouse personnel, supplies/vendors, and Distribution Center management.
